
2nd assignment: collaborative criticism
This second piece was a pair assignment meant to emphasise dialogue and collaboration. There were two options. Students could record a 15- to 20-minute podcast (they were instructed to transcribe this podcast to make it access-friendly – the free Otter app allows for easier transcription). Students were provided with a list of podcast references, such as: Still Processing (New York Times), Culture Gabfest (Slate), Pop Culture Happy Hour (NPR) and Arts Equator’s podcasts for inspiration about how to script their discussion while leaving room for organic moments and improvisation, as well as authentic responses to each other. They could also do a written submission, using Google Docs to have a virtual on-paper discussion with each other.
